Culinary herbs are non-woody plants where typically the leaves are the part of the plant that is being used. Medicinal herbs are mostly shrubs or woody plants. While the green, leafy part of the plant is often used in herbal medicine as well, other portions of the plant including the roots, flowers, seeds, root bark, inner bark, berries and sometimes the pericarp are also made to use.

Many herbs that are familiar to us from the kitchen and that we enjoy in our food also offer a variety of medicinal properties.
